Siem Reap, Cambodia
Less than an hour by air from Bangkok, Siem Reap is home to the stunning Angkor Temples, including Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom. These incredible structures, some over 1,000 years old, should be on everyone’s bucket list and you could spend a lifetime examining the massive temples and the intricate stone carvings and learning about their history.
More importantly (!), from our point of view, Siem Reap is also home to 3 excellent golf courses: The Angkor Golf Resort, designed by Sir Nick Faldo; Phokeethra CC, managed by Sofitel and host of numerous Asian Tour events and the newest course in town, the Korean-owned Siem Reap Booyoung CC (formerly Siem Reap Lake Resort). All are well-conditioned, challenging layouts with all the usual top-class amenities associated with golf in SE Asia and all are within easy driving distance from town.
For after golf there are numerous excellent restaurants and bars located in the center of town either in, or close to, the aptly named Pub Street. Multiple night markets displaying local goods are also close by and within easy walking distance. Locals are very friendly and most of them speak some English. The US$ is the most commonly used currency and a good meal with drinks for 2 at a top class restaurant will cost you around US$ 30.-. A draught beer can be had for less than US$ 1.- in some places. So, prices are very reasonable, to say the least. All in all, whether you are looking for a unique destination to add on to a trip to Thailand or a 3-4 day golf trip on its own, Siem Reap, with its wonderful temples, good golf and inexpensive nightlife is well worth a visit.
Phnom Penh, Cambodia
The hustling & bustling city of Phnom Penh, has developed into an exciting Golf destination in the past few years. Although retaining much of its charm it has undergone tremendous development & growth recently. Not least in the development of excellent, must play golf courses.
Two of the best courses in SE Asia can be found in Phnom Penh. The recently opened Nick Faldo designed VATTANAC GOLF RESORT is a spectacular property. A huge clubhouse graces the grounds and miniature versions of Angkor Wat & other Kmer artifacts can be found on the course. It’s one of Fadlo’s best and we highly recommend a round here.
An excellent compliment to VATTANAC RESORT is the luxurious GARDEN CITY GC. Opened in 2013 it is usually in immaculate condition and provides superb service as is customary with IMG Managed properties. The clubhouse is opulent and the course offer a fabulous driving range as well. An ideal place to start your golf tour of Phnom Penh.
Other good courses worth playing while in Phnom Penh include: CAMBODIA GOLF & CC; ROYAL CAMBODIA GC & the Nicklaus designed GRAND PHNOM PENH GC.
We offer numerous excellent hotels near to the Riverside area. Where you can enjoy the convenience of walking to multiple restaurants, bars and entertainment, Phnom Penh is a great addition to the SE Asian golf scene. And is easily combined with a few days in Siem Reap or Bangkok.
